774 YOUNG NIGERIAN SCIENTISTS PRESIDENTIAL AWARD (774-YONSPA)

The 774 Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation aimed at effectively encouraging and developing the interest of Nigerian youths in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI). This will eventually result in Nigerian youths taking up professions in science, technology, and innovation. The programme is organized annually by the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation across the 36 states of the Federation and FCT through competitive examinations for secondary school students.

THE OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME ARE TO:

• Produce a pool of dedicated scientists and technologists with the capacity to compete internationally; • Attract young Nigerians to develop interest in Science, Technology and Innovation;
• Prepare Nigerians, particularly the youths, to embrace STI as an alternative source of job creation and wealth creation;
• Offer States and LGAs the opportunity to make contributions toward capacity building of young Nigerians in Science, Technology and Innovation;
• Eventually re-orient the citizenry towards accepting science as a way of life;

EXPECTED PARTICIPANTS:

Participation at the event cuts across all Senior Secondary Schools (Private and Public) in the 774 LGAs of the Federation, through their States’ Ministries of Science, Technology and Innovation/Education
