NNAJI TASKS COMMISSIONERS TO COLLABORATE WITH LOCAL INDUSTRIES AND STATEHOLDERS FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffery Nnaji, has called on State Commissioners to actively engage the Local Industries, Research Institutions and Community Stake holders by fostering collaboration, partnership inorder to actively amplify the impact of our scientific endeavor and create a seamless transition from research to application which will spur economic growth and ensure technological advancement to meet the needs of our citizenry.
Chief Nnaji made this statement, during the meeting with the 36 state commissioners of Innovation ,Science and Technology recently in Abuja.
The interactive forum themed, “Domesticating the National Roadmap on Science and Technology at State level”. According to the Minister, domesticating the national roadmap is critical to the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of this administration, adding that, it is the collective responsibilities of national,sub national governments, policy makers and the Organized private sector to work in partnership to translate the Road-map into meaningful impacts.
Nnaji also stated that over the years, stakeholders, analysts, have identified critical constraints that hindered the effective implementation of Nigeria’s Science and Technology Policy, 2012 which includes the uptake of Research and Development, weak collaboration among key stakeholders, inadequate fundings, insufficient infrastructure and weak institutional capacity, amongst others.
He added that as the country transits from resource to knowledge based economy, it is worth emphasizing that the task is daunting but certainly surmountable and requires strong commitment, continuous learning and adaptive strategies in order to shape the future of scientific landscape in the Country.
To this end, the Minister said that the emergency of National Science and Technology Road map (NSTIR) 2017-2030 came in response to the above mentioned constraints in order to catalyze the effective policy and project the STI Eco- System in Nigeria.
Earlier, The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Esuabana Nko Asanye, said that it is important to note that States are graciously endowed with natural and human resources, and if properly managed,
will foster the culture of innovation at the grass root level for sustainable development which will curb poverty and enhance food security in the country.
She further stated that the meeting is an opportunity to engage in knowledge sharing, partnership for effective and efficient implementation of the Roadmap as the fulcrum is in unbundling the Nigerian innovative, scientific and technological potentials for the socio-economic growth of the nation.
