He hails from Akwa-Ibom State and was born on the 28th of February 1965. He attended K. Kotun Memorial School, Surulere, Lagos (1976) for his Primary school, Igbobi College Yaba, Lagos, (1976-1981) and Holy Family College, Abak, Akwa Ibom for his Secondary school (1982-1983). He is a graduate of Microbiology from the University of Calabar (1988), with vast local and global training in Administration, Strategic Planning, Policy and Project Development and Management, Public Health and Supply Chain Management; with further experiences transcending all Professional and Technical Departments.
His very extensive work experience and expertise in the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) earned him a Presidential Award nomination and an executive position to the post of the Senior Technical Assistant to four different Federal Permanent Secretaries from where all Administrative, Technical Policies, Programmes and Projects in all the Professional / Technical Departments.
Also, he has held other appointments / responsibilities such as Head, Public Health Coordination, FMOH; served at the FMOH Procurement/ Evaluation Committee, Represented FMOH in Budget Implementation Committee, represented FMOH at the National Council on Health Committee (NCH) and was also the Departmental Nodal Officer of SERVICOM.
MEJ Bassey also engages with influential decision-makers and thought leaders in international public policy. He’s open to challenges, conversations, and an exchange of ideas from the top players of every sector of the country. He has proven ability for multi-tasking and coping with constantly changing deadlines, demonstrated talent for analyzing problems, finding innovative solutions, and adapting accepted best practices to suit the socio-cultural environment.
He is a highly experienced Administration and Management resource person, educator and programmer and has made impactful inputs towards promoting and strengthening the Educational Sector and in line with Next Level Mandates of the current administration.
He was among the twenty professionals deployed by Mr. President Servicewide to strengthen and give support to some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). He is currently deployed as the Director and Head of Department, Chemical Technology Department, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology by the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Engr. (Dr) Ogbonnaya Onu. He is married to Mrs. Grace Mfon Bassey, a Deputy Director and Head, National HIV/AIDS & STDs Control Programme (NHSCP) Clinical Laboratory Component; Public Health Department, Federal Ministry of Health and blessed with 4 Children.
